David, has continued his
exploration
of Cire Perdue with these life sized and incredibly detailed conkers. A modified version of lost wax casting was used where a one-off mould was made using real conkers and their shells.
This mould, and the original conkers were destroyed as part of the casting process; only one sculpture can ever be made. Each
bronze sculpture is utterly unique and captures every last natural nuance, detail and subtlety. David has developed a range of finishes and
patinas that
enhance and complement the natural textures
of the conkers. The juxtaposition of
a verdigris patina and the
polished edge of the shell is particularly effective.
