This pair of
copper iris water features was commissioned for a very special walled garden in Cheshire.
Irises are beautiful and graceful flowers often found in garden ponds with a shape that is a natural inspiration for a water feature.
These were made by carefully beating the copper to shape the iris's voluminous and sculptural petals.
Special care was taken whilst forging
their profiles to allow water to flow across the petal and then
gently trickle into the pond below.
Over time the copper will
weather into dark brown oxidised copper and gradually develop a natural
blue-green verdigris patina.
A larger water feature based on this iris but also featuring copper bulrushes can be seen on
this page.
A similar iris made from hand forged steel with a galvanised finish can be seen on
this page.
