A Rather Unusual Forged Iron Fruit Bowl

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Made to Commission

The design of this unusual forged iron fruit bowl was inspired by the profusion of stamens seen in flowers such as poppies or anemones. The "filaments" were shaped by gracefully tapering hot metal bars with controlled and repeated hammer blows. The flared tips (anthers) were formed using a traditional blacksmithing technique called "upsetting", where David thickens the tips of the iron bars by hammering them end on.

The hand forged nature of the stamens lends each a slightly irregular and individual quality, and a rich naturally worked texture. The bowl has a burnished and waxed finish highlighting the tones and textures of the forged metal.

The bowl is 490mm across.
