R121 Railings Inspired by Nature and Natural Forms

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Ashdown Forest, East Sussex

Safety requirements were a consideration for the design of these railings and handrails. However, the overarching requirement was that they look sculptural and complement their spectacular natural setting.

A design feature that the owner particularly liked is the suggested meeting and tension where the handrails almost touch, above the rill flowing to the gunnera below. The natural forms look as though they are searching for, and growing towards each other.

Stylised plants are used as structural elements for the support posts to add a degree of delicacy and to soften the visual weight of the stucture.
