V84 Blacksmith Made Steel Ammonite Fossil

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Jurassic Coast, Dorset

This metal fossil was made by forging a tapered steel bar into an ammonite shape. Two chunks of rough cut steel were heated in a blacksmith's forge until they started to burn, giving the metal a rock like texture and finish. The chunks were then hammered together with the ammonite placed between them, embedding the fossil into the metal.
