The customer who commissioned this copper
handrail requested a "flattened
D" rather than a round cross section since it has a more ergonomic and
pleasing feel to the hand.
This cross section is not available off-the-shelf, so Verdigris had to make custom tooling that allowed round section bar to be hammered into a bespoke D section.
Once forged, the copper was finished with a soft satin
polish to enhance its tactile quality.
The finials were forged into fishtails stamped with stylised scales in a whimsical reference to its pool side location.
