The Blacksmiths' Induction Forge |
An induction forge uses the principle of electro-magnetic induction to heat metals and is remarkably quick, very green and efficient.
The metal being heated is placed inside the water cooled coils and many thousands of Amps are passed through them. This induces a short circuit current in the metal and causes it to heat up ...rapidly. The temperature can get to close to 1500 C in seconds.
Since nearly all the energy used goes into the work as heat, and no fumes are given off, induction heating is extremely green. Unlike coke or gas forges, very rapid and localised heating is possible.
