This is grill is more of a safety feature than a
security grill. It covers a window at the base of the stairs and prevents
accidents, should anyone fall down the stairs.
The design of the grill combines a graphic quality with the flowing
curves typically seen in period Art Nouveau metalwork. The joggling
of the straight bars and the woven flowing elements,
give the work a three dimensional quality.
The grill was commissioned at the same time as these stair
balustrades and was designed to complement them.
