This collection is a response to
David's
fascination with the endless palette of colours offered by bronze and copper alloys.
Each sculpture is a unique fusion of two contrasting but complementary metals. The birds are cast with a variety of traditional bronze alloys and bespoke
blends specially developed by David.
The sculptures are first modelled in clay, then foundry cast in bronze using the traditional method of lost wax casting (cire perdue).
David carefully makes subtle adjustments to their beaks when the birds are still in the wax stage.
Although small and discreet, these changes give each bird a unique countenance and expression.
Placed together, they often appear engaged in a dialogue and wordless communication.
Insights into the serendipity involved in the early development of this collection can be seen on this
blog page.
