"Persephone's Ghost" ... foundry bronze and garnet gemstones

David has long been enthralled by the ancient Greek myth of Persephone and her connection with the seasons and the cycle of death and rebirth. Years after opening his first pomegranate, he is still completely captivated by the myriad of beautiful, jewel like, seeds inside.

This solid bronze and garnet sculpture is a response to both the symbolism of the myth, and the beauty of the fruit. However, each sculpture is live cast using a segment of a real pomegranate, and a modified version of cire perdue where the original is destroyed after each cast. Each bronze pomegranate is as individual as the original created by nature. Because of this, the placement of the garnet gemstones varies with each sculpture. Every sculpture is utterly unique.
