This contemporary stair bannister was designed without
the use of straight lines. Its flowing curves and forged steel detailing
were inspired by metalwork from the Art Nouveau period. As much attention
was given to the use of negative space in the design as to the bannister's
sweeping and curvilinear lines.
Whilst the design is a contemporary interpretation of the Art Nouveau
period, the bannister was made using traditional blacksmithing techniques.
The steel was shaped by hammering it
whilst hot, a process that naturally creates flowing and elegant forms.
