Letchmore Heath, Hertfordshire |
This pair of richly detailed
wrought iron gates
was designed to reflect their leafy setting and was made using traditional
blacksmithing techniques. The handmade nature of the gates can be seen in their joinery, which includes the use of
mortise and tenons,
rivets and
wrapped joints. All the leaves and other organic
detailing were hand
forged; each is unique and individual.
Pictures of the leaves being forged can be
seen here, whilst
this page shows various elements of the gates' frames were made.
The gates were one of a series of
seven made for a very special garden. A pedestrian gate can be seen on
this page and some of the
smaller gates on here.
