This contemporary iron bowl is made by rough cutting a piece of heavy duty
iron plate with a gas flame to create the waney textured
edges. The metal is then selectively forged to thin and overlap some of the scallops as the iron is spread by the hammer's blows.
The intense heat of the forge causes the metal to develop a hard and tough, black firescale on its surface. This is
purposefully driven into the iron by the forceful blows that shape the bowl. This creates a wonderfully organic pitted texture that is enhanced by hand burnishing and waxing the metal.
The bowl's edges are polished to act as an accent and counterpoint to the more rough hewn texture of the darker
interior.
The bowl is 300mm across
