H55: Steel Tree Stair Balustrade

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Delamere, Cheshire

This forged steel balustrade was based on a stylised tree branch and its "twigs" were given a hammered texture to suggest bark.

The balustrade was designed as a single "tree" which serves as a balustrade for both the stairs and the gallery above. The growth of the tree spreads up the stairs and across the two panels of the gallery.

The steel was burnished and finished with a hard clear protective wax. This highlights the tones and textures in the forged steel that paint would otherwise mask.
