H25: Forged Steel Stair Balustrades

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

These forged steel stair balustrades were commissioned for an apartment in Chelsea. They were developed from the "windswirl" balustrades, with elements added to meet building regulations regarding a 100mm gap.

Rather than being welded, the bars were joined using spacers, hot punched holes and ballnuts. The ends of the handrails were forged to a tactile shape complementing the shapes within the balustrades. A burnished and waxed finish was used to give a subtle metallic appearance. The balustrades in this link have a similar design but use simpler welded joinery, whilst these balustrades have a less visually dense design.
