Verdigris is the blue-green patina that forms on copper
or bronze when attacked
and corroded by the
atmosphere. This finish can be reproduced using special chemical
treatments applied to the copper in a variety of ways.
However, a true patina develops slowly, with diverse and
somewhat unpredictable results. Because of this, a verdigris finish is often
mimicked using paints, both on copper and other metals.
Paint finishes are quick to apply but lack the nuances in tone and texture of a genuine verdigris and are a poor imitation.
A chemically developed verdigris looks genuine, real and authentic.
Paint just looks like paint!
