This elegant and richly detailed metal gate was specially commissioned to reflect a pattern etched in the door glass seen in the background of the photographs.
Traditional blacksmithing techniques were used to make this garden gate. Its "halfpenny" scrolls were forged by heating the steel then hammering it to shape. At high temperatures the metal becomes extremely malleable and can readily be shaped. The elegant tapers seen in the gate were also hand forged this way.
How this gate was made and the elegant detailing seen within it, set it apart from mass produced gates made using identikit components.
