This pair of creative
wrought
iron driveway gates was designed to fold back on themselves as they opened.
This type of gates are sometimes referred to as bifold or concertinaed
gates and are used to create parking space in an otherwise restricted
driveway.
The railings complement the design of the gates which was based around stylised garden plants. The
calla lilies, long elegant
tapered scrolls and other organic detailing
were made by heating the metal in a
blacksmith's forge
then hammering it to shape.
Working the metal this way creates natural looking and gracefully
flowing curves. More information about how some of the leaves used in
these gates were made can be seen
here.
