This contemporary steel
canopy was commissioned for a traditional fire hearth. It was designed as a pleasing blend of smooth sheet steel and heavily textured
forged steel.
The bands of steel were heated until glowing hot to form a tough layer of
fire scale. This was
hammered
into the softened metal, creating the natural and aged looking
texture.
