V84 Blacksmith Made Ammonite Fossil

"... stylish, elegant, and bespoke metalwork ..."

Made to Commission

This fossil was made by first forging a long taper onto a square bar, which was twisted and shaped into a spiral "ammonite". This was cooled and sandwiched between two extremely hot steel plates. A power hammer was used to force the plates together and drive the ammonite into the plates. These were then burnt and textured in a coke forge to give them a rock like appearance. Finally, the fossil was opened to reveal the intact metal ammonite.
